We just keep seeing the Canon V Nikon threads these days..

The fact of the matter is with Digital for several years there were few compelling reasons other than legacy to chose Nikon (for DSLR) as Canon was absolutely way ahead from 2001 - 2006, particularly in the pro DSLR category.
This was a dark time for Nikon as even there loyal long time shooters were migrating to Canon (again on the pro level more than consumer)
The consumer level bodies there was more parity,. but once you looked at 1D series, Noinks answers to them were always too little and in some cases VERY too late.. ( Noink finally released a pro level 4MP body with similar to specs to the 1D,... 3 years after the 1D! And even with an extra 3 years time to work on it, the D2H wasn't any better than the 1D, in fact it was arguably not as good.. just as an example )

During that period, we really never saw many threads making the comparison, as there was none to be made.

Now Noink is right there with Canon with there two latest and greatest. The forum has not been the same since.

I chose a 5D DESPITE it being a Canon, not because it was. I wanted the low light performance that only a 5D (or a 1ds MkIII) could give me. I say despite it being Canon as I was one of the people shafted by Canon when they introduced EOS. Suddenly all my FD gear, and I had a lot of it, was relatively worthless and couldn't be upgraded.

That said, I think Canon are well ahead of Nikon in the DSLR stakes, or have been until recently. I'd much rather have a 40D than a D40, though I prefer my 5D to either of them. If I were to choose another DSLR from what's currently available (and could afford it) it would be a 1Ds MkIII.

5D & 7D (both gripped), 24-105L, 100-400L, 15-85, 50 f1.8, Tamron 28-75, Sigma 12-24, G10, EX-Z55 & U/W housing, A1+10 lenses, tripods, lighting gear, etc. etc.

GM is clearly better than Ford. (Although I just bought a Focus for the wife.. opps!)

I tell that to my wife every time I pick her up at the Ford dealership in my Grand Prix. She has yet to pick me up. ;)

Not according to this--

GM seems to be below industry average. Oh, and look at BMW.

The problems with the powers survey are many. I filled one out with my last new car and many questions were ambiguous and leading. But it all boils down to a number delivered without context is meaningless. It’s sort of like the traffic stat posted last week that indicates that out of every 100 traffic fatalities 60 died with their seat belts on and more people die between 50 and 55mph than at any other speed including over 55. So clearly it is safer to ride without seatbelts at a high rate of speed, right?

Give him a break, Roy. He's from Florida, and they don't know the language very well.

Well since everyone else has used an analogy, Im going to go with..... Kraft vs Velveeta

They are virtually the same, sure there are a few differences in each that are mostly personal preference on which you like better.

Its not like you can look at an Image and say "Oh man what a great image, that must have been shot with a Canon/Nikon camera"

They are both just a tool to produce the same product.

Thats why I shot (when I shot 35mm) with my F-1s until a few years back. Noth'n really better than those and the glass I had anyway. I need FF and low light and didn't need all the stuff on a 1Ds ...

I am SO GLAD I went with the 5d and doubt I will be up grading when the new one comes out.

Nikons are great cameras and they are all just tools. The real importance is learning to use those tools to express your vision. Ya can't really fully learn if your changing gear with every upgrade.

I don't think your analogy works in this instance, since velveeta is a Kraft product.
