I think a more appropriate comparison between Canon and Nikon would be Rolls Royce and Bentley:)

Sadly, Rolls Royce is not the same now that it's owned by BMW, whereas a Bentley is still a Bentley.

Rolls hasn't deteriorated as much as has Jaguar, though.

You obviously haven't read the reviews of the latest Jaguars. For instance, the new Jaguar XF has just been voted the Car of the Year by What Car Magazine. It is a superb car. And - the S-type Jaguar has just come top in the Executive Class in the recently-announced JD Power survey.

Jaguars are now some of the best cars in the world of their type. And they're properly built. The only amazing thing is that Ford don't seem to realise what a gem they've just let go.

I haven't researched the numbers but does that mean that Pentax, Sony, and the others are outselling Canon and Nikon combined? (By a landslide I might add.)

Volkswagen owns Bentley. Personally I would rather be owned by BMW.

I dont' think the owners matter much. Both cars are still made in the same factories, by the same workforce, in Britain.

The problem is they are designed in Germany by Germans and use German engines and running gear (more so for the Bentley than the Rolls).

Although it might not be all that bad, BMW started by building Austin 7s under license so things have just gone full circle.

So long and thanks for all the flash

I'd still be using Nikon if the newspaper I worked for went over to Canon when it went digital in 1999.. At that time Nikon didn't have a DSLR that we though suitable.. We bought 12 Canon D2000 kits,, biggest pieces of crap I've ever used..

I came up using Nikon film cameras since the late 70's.. I still reckon my Nikon F2AS Photomic is the best camera I've ever owned,,, an absolute work of art..

They are more like BMW and Mercedes, both at the top of the industry, with class leading technology, but both go about it quite differently, and have their own fan bases.

GM and Ford both still make cars with leaf springs and live axles.

No. They're more like ford and chevy. Maybe like toyota or lexus... at best.

Leica and zeiss are the mercedes of the past. Not the current compressor ****

A BMW is a "cool" car only in the north america, in reality it's "meh"

I don't like talking about brands.

The consumers are much more fun. Most buy their tubrocharged sport cars and slowly drive around a little circle in their back yard.

They freaked out when they see a scratch... and the car is a status symbol and after getting one, you believe yours is best and anybody who disagrees should be argued to death.

You won't race it. You won't take it to the limit, but you'll sit around the forum arguing about horsepowers, torque, add-ons and whichever comes from 0 to 60 faster.
