I'm looking for an inexpensive umbrella setup to practice with. I'll be using my Canon 430ex speedlite with it. I found this on eBay http://cgi.ebay.com …ZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem (external link)

What do you think?
Thanks,
Jerry

It appears that this will get your flash mounted to the umbrella - although I'm not convinced of the quality of the unit. What will you mount all this on? Do you have a stand?

I wouldn't recommend that unit. I bought an umbrella swivel like that and had two major complaints with it:

(1) the hotshoe mount did not fit my Sunpak 383 very well. I had to do a little filing to get it to fit
(2) the bottom portion which attaches to your light stand is VERY cheaply made. I ended up slightly over-tightening because it didn't feel very secure with an umbrella attached and the plastic cracked, so now its useless

I got this one to replace my broken one:

MUCH happier...and for only a few $ extra...

Try www.flashzebra.com (external link) - good prices, good service, and a POTN member. He carries the mounting hardware. Then pick up an umbrella for cheap.
