200's great when the subject is a bit distant while the 85's great if stepping back is not an option

Traded my 24L, 85L and 135L + cash for this bad boy. It was my only lens for a while. I recently purchased a Contax Planar T* 2/100. A strange combo considering my subject is a 2 year old....lol

So you're always 25-30' away in order to take photos of your child?

I shoot it hand held with the 5DII and grip without a problem. It's very easy with the amazing IS, but others have complained about the size/weight.

Here's one at 1/50"

yes it can be handled, it has good balance, but not for too long (4kg total with 1D) ...

I have shot for 6 hours with short pauses every 5 minutes, for two days in a row, that is my limit, it was becoming difficult at the end of each day ...

I think I've only used a tripod or monopod once maybe twice with this lens so I hand hold almost all the time and I get can get consistent results at 1/40 if the subject isn't moving.

I concur, the IS is amazing. Well balanced for the weight. The accuracy of the AF on mine is perfect on a 5D2.
