I would sell it especially when you have the 135... you could add a 1.4 extender to this and you should have covered your needs: -)

That, plus the 70-200L is still a light 200mm f/2.8 compared to the 200L IS. But I still rather bring the 200L IS over the 70-200L. Weight doesn't bother me walking around. Hiking, no, I'll take lighter, but normal walking along the beach or in a park I take the 200L IS 99% of the time. I just love that lens.

Quick snapshot before heading to school. I need to find a more pleasing background. Unfortunately, there are no fall froliage where I'm at :(

With the ability to bur the background into nothingness... I was under the impression any background works with this lens. ;)

Yeah, but I was looking for some fall colors, naturally.

Question again, what's a good price for this lens (used)?

I think that's something you have to determine how much you are willing to pay. I personally think anything sub 5K for a mint condition is a good deal. around 3500 for the 200 1.8 (as an alternative).

I've thought about the 200 1.8 but 200mm really needs IS.

The only downside of picking up a used one is the potential need to send it back to the mothership for rechipping (if you have the 5D3). There's an issue with the IS on the 5D3, and maybe the 1DX.

Same here, back when I had canon. But now I want 200VRII or even 200VRI

I have a 5D3 but according to this:

http://www.the-digital-picture.com/News/News-Post.aspx?News=2401 (external link)

Affected Products

EF200mm f/2L IS USM Lens
EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM Lens

*This phenomenon does not occur with cameras other than the EOS 5D Mark III.

*If the fifth and sixth digit of the six-digit alphanumeric number that is imprinted on the lens mount of the above EF lenses is of any of the following numbers, the lens is affected.

EF200mm f/2L IS USM: If the fifth and sixth digit is 00, 01, or 02.
EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM:If the fifth and sixth digit is 00, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, or 06.

So as long as I avoid the 00's, 01's and 02's - then I guess I should be alright. Am I right?

Sounds about right. The used lens I picked up is a "01". And the IS makes the funky noise after the shutter's been released.

However, since I'm not too far from the mothership, I felt saving more than $1,000 off retail was worth the effort of dropping the bad boy off for free cleaning and repair. :)

IMO, unless it's just a royal pain for you to get the lens to a service center, don't pass up on a used lens in mint condition.

Did they fixed it free?
I don't think I'll ever spend $6K for this lens. Around $4,500 to $4,700 or so, then I'll bite.
