We thought the same about the 200mm f/1.8L

As for used prices, having been in this market a lot recently I can tell you tat used prices have dropped considerably across the entire line up. The old adage that "you only rent L lenses" ( ie: resale prices are 10% lower than new) is not so true anymore.

Quite true. Several years ago I sold my 200 2.8L II at the bargain price of $700. This year, I picked up another copy (Canon refurb./12-month warranty) for $497.

Jake,

I don't know what the climate is now but less than a year ago I got almost exactly what I paid for my 200 2L when it was new and I had it for 8 years. My 85L, 24L 35L all didn't fair well so I think it boils down to which lens it is.
Some Leica lenses over the years have gained a lot. The Leica M 35 1.4 summilux double aspherical is just one example.

Arthur, I am aware of this phenomenon

I wonder if this is related to the problems you've been experiencing?

Great photos in here and elsewhere on this forum.

Anyone noticed any odd behaviour (or phenomenon ;) ) when mounting the 200L/2 on the 1DX2? Mine causes my 1DX2 not to power back up when switched on sometimes after mounting, remove the battery and it's all good again? Latest firmware 1.1.2 and new 1DX2 batteries, I have passed it to CPS who are going to test the combo today for me and let me know, hope I don't have to send them in, never had an issue with my 200L/2 before.

P.s I know I am new, not just here to get tech info, thanks, Arthur

EDIT: CPS have replicated the issue today with there 1DX2 and the 200L/2, now been passed to Canon for investigation.

Hm... I'm too chicken to test mine out. I did send the lens back for the upgrade/update when I bought it used and it was making sounds on my 5D3. I don't know if it's a related issue or not. But I'll wait to see what you report back first. :)

Love the way this lens renders... very little to no post processing is ever needed.

Very photogenic model, Talley. She seems quite comfortable in front of the camera. Nice photos, too. If you decide you don't need this lens anymore, I'll trade you my 50 STM for it. :)

200 2 is way outside my budget!

Nice shots, Talley! What did you use for lighting? Flash or reflector?

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

These are natural. Just a zoo trip and I catch shots when the kids let me lol. Her sister sat down so I told her to look at me give me a mean face and I captured the below and then next thing I know my youngest is sitting there waiting for her photo to be taken lol... I just let her do her thing and she does cute stuff naturally.

this one is sooc.
