You really need the hard case (or something very like it) to transport this baby when it’s not mounted to a camera body. It’s so large & heavy, it just won’t fit into your average camera bag. I also really wouldn’t want them to ship it to you without the hard case (or again, something which closely resembles it), to keep it safe from damage.

uh.. if the bag fits a 70-200 it fits the 200/2.... without the hood. I keep mine mounted to a camera in a think tank trifecta 10 bag.

When you buy through canon price watch you get the exact item as it would ship from any authorized retailer, it’s just that they aren’t allowed to advertise any sale price so you go through CPW street price thing and get a good deal. You don’t get to know the retailer until they contact you for payment. I was just worried they’d taken the case out to try and make up the cost of the deal price...but Gordon at CPW assured me that it ships in this car so it would be complicated for then to ship it to me without, and not in agreeance with the terms...so I think it’s going to be ok.

Update - Got the lens in the hard case. Can't wait to take it out for a spin!

Hey,

I'm looking to get a 2nd hand copy of this lens and found one at a store that's not local. I asked them for the serial/date code but what they gave me doesn't make sense, it was a single letter followed by 3 numbers and another 5 numbers below that. Can anyone with the lens confirm the location and format of the serial/date code on their copy?
