I am recording 640*480 movies on my camera and when I try to open them using VLC media player after downloading them onto my computer using ZoomBrowser, I get a "This AVI file is broken" and offers me to repair. The repair works all the time but needs to be done every time I open the movie file, would anyone know why this happens?

Probably VLC Media Player and Canon don't expect the same contents. AVI is really just a wrapper around many different file structures which can provide motion video. Why VLC can "repair" but not play Canon's MotionJPEG, I don't know. But evidently that's how they chose to handle it.
