I've been reading up on the RadioPoppers and I'm really excited! The one question I have is what is the main difference between the two? I'm guessing the P1's can transmit ETTL and the JR's just fire the flash? Am I thinking correctly here? Thanks!

In a nutshell, yes. The jr's are meant to be an inexpensive but reliable ghetto wizard replacement.

The popper jr's are only trigger/receiver like the ebay ones... but more reliable according to the popper site. I'm also waiting...

I think it was on the RadioPopper website, but maybe it was a thread here, that there was talk the Jr. may have a hotshoe mount that would sync up with the camera through the hotshoe. That would be great when you don't want ANY flash from the camera position I think. It seems to me you pretty much have to have a flash mounted on the camera and firing to make the RP work, or am I missing something? What do you all think about the hotshoe feature, maybe as an alternate configuration to the strap on like the RP-1?

You are talking about two different types of RP units. One type relays the IR signals from the master to the slave flashes via RF. With this type of RP, full ETTL compatibility is maintained. The other, the Jr., work just like any other conventional RF remote like PWs, SkyPorts, etc. With this unit, there is no ETTL compatibility so the flashes have to be operated in manual mode.

Found it. This is what I am referring to:

http://radiopopper.com/blog/?p=48 (external link)

"Initial Design Details - Inputs and Outputs:
The transmitter will likely sport a single 1/8” mono jack just like other triggering systems, and there is a very good chance it will not fit directly on the hot shoe. Attaching a unit to the hot shoe involves tooling and molding costs. That hasn’t been totally dropped at this point, it’s just not likely either.

.......
We do have an idea to attach a hot-shoe adaptor directly to the bottom of the Jr’s body which would then in effect create a unit that could be mounted to a hot-shoe in a clean way with minimal effort, while avoiding the high cost of plastic molding."

why wouldn't it work w/studio flash units? The description says the receiver will have a output jack and the site mentions the possibility of offering an adapter cord 1/8" mono to pc.

mono > PC or 1/4 isn't hard to do at all. If you don't want to DIY cables/adapters hit up flashzebra, he makes great custom cables.

And the P1 is extremely limited. As far as I recall, it only works with TTL strobes, which would currently only be Canon's and Nikon's at the moment...

Yeah but within the limitations they are pretty awesome (from what i've read). Considering how many people were saying they would never get made, its an accomplishment in and of itself. To release both a TTL capable radio device *and* hopefully an inexpensive 'dumb' trigger, kudos!
