I did actually check out the article. It is pretty amazing how they do all of that. I am planning on selling the images to parents. I don't plan on making a lot of money anytime soon. I just want to make enough to pay for my equipment so I can keep shooting.

Let me ask you a question out of curiosity. Are the Pocket Wizard Plus II and Multimax units compatible with each other?

Ok, let's look at the business case:
- Camera : $1000 (give or take)
- Backup camera: $800 (say you get a cheaper one, which isn't a good idea)
- Shoe mount flashes: $600 (you should have a backup)
- Studio strobes: say $1000 for the starter kit
- Pocket Wizards: guess $600 for one transmitter and two receivers if you don't have backups
Misc: $500 (cables, memory cards, etc)
Total: $4000

Lets say people buy 6x4 prints. Including overheads maybe these cost you $1. You'll be lucky to sell them for $10. Take away tax and you might make $5 per print you sell. You have to sell $800 to break even without buying more equipment. That doesn't count repairs or upgrades. You also need whatever system to sell online, and doesn't include proofs, if you want to sell that way. Selling bigger prints is gravy.

I'm not trying to put you off, just pointing out the realities of shooting professionally.

I don't know anything about PWs anyway so lucky you found that answer. I'm surprised no-one else has commented on this thread!

Yea. Looks like its just you an me in here. I already made my account with exposure manager. Nothing crazy yet. I only shot one lacrosse game and I didn't hand out any buisness cards (bc i haven't made them yet). I sold 5 4x5's making me a big 16 bucks. www.tgimagery.com (external link) . Don't forget the 4,500 for the 300mm 2.8L IS I plan on buying before the summer is over. I also have to get business cards, flyers, t-shirts for myself, i just started a blog for SEO. I knew it would be hard. And I know there is much more for me to learn. I have to read about marketing and business. I actually just got back from borders where I was looking for a book for begginer business. I didn't get anything because they closed after I was there for 5 minutes. lol I have time I guess. I guess you can say I am still in learning mode before I go out and fully embark. For now im just sticking my toes in the water.

Don't give up the day job! Or for you that might be better said "make sure you can get a day job"!

I work full time and go to school full time. Now that school is over for the summer I found another job where I will be 30 hours a week on top of the 40 at my full time job. It sucks because I won't have as much time to shoot during the summer. I am transferring away to a better school next year. I won't be working when I am there because I will be wrestling but I should find enough time to shoot compared to my schedule now. I can't wait to be done with school!
