Drisley, do you find much difference in the speed using the UDMA cards?

cheers,
Iain.

I use a 16Gb Ultra III - but based on Drisley's comments -I've just ordered a UDMA card from Amazon UK. And a Class 6 SD card - just for comparison!

I too have not had a card fail in years - My father managed to currupt one in a G2 - but I recovered the files ok. Same card has not been a problem since.

i went thru my 2 bg cards pretty fast at a wedding over the weekend.

Just wondering what people used? i will be honest, having 8 gb of info on one card kinda scares me.

so what do other 1D III shooters use?

Lexar?
Sandisk?

what speeds and capacities?

Thanks in advance!

Depends on how many photos you take? 4GB I believe gets your about 180 photos or a little less. Might want to go with 4 and 4. Get a 4GB CF and a 4GB SDHC card. That way you have 8GBs total in your camera and you don't have to go changing cards in the middle of a wedding.

For me personally, and not just wedding related, I went through 38.5GBs of photos at an air show. Glad I had 16GB and 8GB cards. Less changing in the middle of the action.

Sandisk, Ridata and Transcend. 133x/150x or better. Mostly 4gb cards. Some 2's and I just snagged an 8gb Ridata. Sweet, superfast card.

3 x 8GB SanDisk Extreme III.

I got sick and tired of having to swap out the smaller cards and manage them to make sure I don't resuse them.

I would also recommend that you go to your local camera shop and see if they sell Promaster Memory Cards.

All of my SD cards and a couple of CF cards are Promaster. I have had no problems with them at all. But if you ever do have a card fail Promaster requires dealers to replace on the spot, and if they dont have that ard in stock they must give the next one up as a replacement.

I have 2 CF cards here that are 5 years old that I no longer use because of thier speed. They have never failed or corrupted and image, but my local dealer told me to bring them in and they will relace them with faster cards free of charge.

I only use Sandisk or Promaster now since they are they only 2 comapanies I have never had a failure with.

I hesitated for a long time to use an 8GB card, but I finally got one and it's so nice on the Mark III! I still have a bunch of 4GB but almost always use the 8GB now.

I use Sandisk extreme III in 4, 8, 12 flavors and have not noticed any difference between the different sizes. I have used many different format cards for over 10yrs and never had one fail. I drop a camera from 500 ft onto concrete and the SD card was still downloaded. It was cracked and bent at a 10 degree angle.

UDMA cards are slower in the MkIII since there is no UDMA support. Only the 1DsMkIII has UDMA support.

In order to get those speeds on your computer, you also must have a UDMA compatible reader.

I've never had a 4gb fail but the 8gb did...I've decided to stay with the 4gb...they seem to write faster anyway.

I use sandisk extreme II and silicon power 4gb cards.
