I seem to have this issue with soccer photos. Is it something I am doing (I assume it would be)

If you want help, you're gonna need to either not strip the EXIF data from your images (which you did - most likely by doing a "Save for Web" in Photoshop) or post the EXIF info along with each shot. You'll also need to tell us what AF scheme you were using and which exposure mode you were in.

Otherwise, there is no way to even begin to tell you what might be the issue.

ITz, the exif on #2 might make that gym win the prize for worst lighting ever. 1/200-3200-f2.8 and that dark? The ONLY thing that's going to help there is some flash. You'll get effective shutter speeds much higher than you can shooting ambient in there and your colors should have a bit more zest to them. Shooting wide open with that slow shutter is definitely one of the reasons for being soft. Another can simply be a little shake while shooting. IT doesn't take much movement on a zoom to induce soft or even very blurry images.

Again, my suggestion here is to use flash. Even direct on camera flash will produce a result that you'll probably find more pleasing.

ok I have my clamps finally but i have 2 430's i will have to buy a transmitter so they will work.

does anyone now where you can purchase the flash stands that make you flash a bit higher than right on top of the camera. I say a photographer have one, one day. She worked for lifetouch

I think you need to use th right tool for the job. I still don't get why don't you try your 85mm f1.8 for these shots. Sorry to be harsh but every time people suggest that you don't strip exif, you do. Most important things are,

f-stop
shutter speed
ISO

then whether AI servo or not which exif won't tell
lens used

I don't think 24-70mm f2.8 is a fast focussing lens. Could be wrong as I haven't used it.

I do sometimes use the 85mm this gym the ways its built behing the goal is right at the goal. I am soo close i cant even get a shot unless its away from the goal at this particular location. i did some shots with is but didn't get anything but an arm or leg in the photos cause i was sooo close. its not that I dont listen. I do listen to every work said to me or written :0) sometimes i can use it and sometimes i just tooooo close is all. And secondly.. I NEVER I MEAN NEVER Ever has stripped info. never. I dont know how its stripped.

I upload photo's from my card to my drive. i view each one adjust as needed if I do it at all. and resize them from the 12 and 13 megs they usually are by changing to a jpg using dpp and convert and save command. I always chose jpg efix... i think it says. then i save and upload and link

THATS IT..

i have never changed anything.

I was told aside from the 85mm for sports I need a 24-70 and 70-200 so that is what I have and all i carry with me. I used the 24-70 because of how close I was. I know i lose a stop of to but its that or shoot from the stands as my only options..

I am working out the kinks.. I have the clamps iwill try to position my lights on the claps next time and have some additional off camera lighting or use my 430ex one or the other i will try...

i have 2 pocket wizards also i need to figure out how to use them the are still in the box actually i had forgot about them.

thnx for everything but at this floor was no room to move back and shoot this is why i am where I am.

agreed on all points Bobby. LEAVE THE EXIF INTACT!!!

I have used the 24-70 for hoops and found it not to be up to the task. Perhaps others have had better luck but everytime I tried that lens for hoops, I came away disappointed.
