Honestly I hate leaving comments on logo and boarder and stuff like that.. because sometimes i feel there is a double standard..plus everyone likes to flame me for my options.

I watermark my work about 50% of the time.( almost never boarders unless it is for myspace or something chessy like that)

watermarks and boards are kinda of armature.. This is really the first year.. I think some of my work has been strong enough to go without watermark.

there is a joke or saying.. the larger the watermark.. the worst the photographer.. and that is really true.. however it just takes a lot of time to develop that style

so before everone send me the hate pms.. that I am wrong.

here are some major photographer..
no watermarks.

This really isn't what I'd consider a watermark as much as a Gallery border. Hill and Lachapelle can both afford $500.00 per hour lawyers to defend their copyright so they don't need them. Plus the work they display is usually already published so it's easily recoverable if stolen.

I like putting gallery borders on my best work. It's a presentation thing.

Agreed.

Watermarking is blocking the image, and trying to make it so you couldn't use an unblemished version for free. Clearly not the OP's intent with this border.

I also have a gallery border on a single panorama that I did that I was very pleased with. Other than that I don't bother with any type of watermarking. Someday I might create something that's worth stealing, but not yet :)

The second one is better. I think I find it distracting. My eye gets drawn to your name because it's the brightest thing in the frame. It's not a bad idea, I just can't think of a direction to go with it to suggest how to improve it.

Thanks for the comments. I haven't really decided on font yet (including color). I do agree that a duller color wouldn't attract your eye as much.

is the white keyline leading anybody else's eyes out of the picture?

Maybe dulling the key line down in color would be a good idea also?

SlowBlink wrote in post #5572357 (external link)
I like the keyline. It gives some edge to the composition. I wonder how it would look with a lighter subject.

Thanks, Thats the main reason why I have it there. Also, on darker photos there is no separation between the border and photo. Thats where the key line comes in. However some might like it better with the seamless transition.

I guess I just feel like it's too hard edged and strict and in such stark contrast to the pictures that are free, flowing, soft, and open. Maybe even just a different font would work. I just keep coming back to "this could be great, I just can't put my finger on exactly what I don't like".

This is why I didn't want to go for the all four side borders. I felt that they constricted the picture to much. With the sides open, I feel it's gives the picture "freedom". However there seems to be cons with both styles.

Yea, as stated this isn't a water mark, nor being used as one. IMO pictures give off a much stronger/ better appearance when coupled with a simple yet sleek border. Thats what I'm trying to achieve with this. Also, this is how they will be displayed on the website, so in a sense like myspace. I hope my site is cheesy like that though lol;).

Yup, thats exactly what it's being used for.

Agreed, I'm pretty sure I'm a long way from getting work stolen .

Thanks for all the help,
Bob

Here is a brighter photo with the same border.
Sry about the photo choice, I know it isn't the easiest on the eyes.

With top border:

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'image/gif' | Byte size: ZERO | PHOTOBUCKET ERROR IMAGE

Without top border:
IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'image/gif' | Byte size: ZERO | PHOTOBUCKET ERROR IMAGE
