Just curious, if you can choose between this option what will you choose?

My mainly focus is on portrait, so i want to make full use of my 85L, better focusing, and get better IQ offcourse, and i think the 5D will do the best combo for under $2000 :),

now i got the 85L i think i'll mainly using that and the UWA lens for now, i know that the 17-55 is a good lens but i think the 17-40L will the get that good pict like the 17-55, i'll use it for group and landscape, sure gonna miss that lens ,

thx for your choice :)

To best advise, maybe a better explanation of what you find lacking with your current setup would help. Clearly the gear you have now is very capable of the photography you have mentioned but I sense that your looking for something else..

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

I do a ton of portrait work and use the 5D with the EF 85 f/1.8 whenever I can. I also have the EF 17 - 40 f/4.0L and use that a lot in the studio with fashion models (I shoot a lot of tall ones where the 50mm just doesn't work). The IQ of the 5D is amazing.

yeah i know the 5D is best for portrait, and i would really love the range if my 85L + the 5D, i think it's the same as my 50 f/1.4 now on my 400D :)

I have not answered the poll as I think a modified no 1 is the way to go
but I would keep the 50 f1.4 The jump would be too big for me from 40 mm to 85 mm
and the quality of a 50 1.4 is better than any zoom.

The 85 L was made for FF get the 5D. The 17-40 is an awesome lens on the 5D as well. You can't go wrong with that set up. Maybe get the kit with the 24-105 if you can swing it with the rebates going right now.
