Looks like the GI (Aka cactus aka ebay) triggers aren't as bad as I thought. For under $40 I think they are worth a shot. My master flash is a 580ex II, my slaves I dont have yet but probably vivitar or something else that isnt too expensive.

Do I want the V2 or the V2S for best compatibility?

I have used both the V2 and V2s with the 580EX II and have had no issues with either - they both had comparable misfiring rates for me. I currently use the V2s as when I got more flashes I couldn't get hold of the original ones I had.

Just bought them and suckered myself into buying GIs flash diffuser for 15 bucks even though you can make them for probably 2 dollars.

From gadget infinity's ebay webstore

NOTE ON COMPATIBILITY: For Olympus FL-36, Sunpak 433D, Sunpak 383, Vivitar 258HV which requires a special designed receiver, please purchase our V2s receiver if you already have a V2 transmitter.

You can get a Skyport transmitter and receiver for $190.00....worth it in my opinion.

Cactus transmitter & receiver are under $50, why spend $140 more if they work fine? If you rely on these to make money that's one thing, but then you will probably spend more than $190, but for most of us, for whom this is only a hobby, the cactus triggers are one of the best values in photography.
