Beautiful images, and spot on tracking for such long exposures, some of them. I'm very envious. I've been trying Astrophotography for several months now, getting on for a year in fact, and I've not achieved anything yet.

Hello Paolo;

Those are just stunning images... very well done...

How long does it take you to post-process once you've captured all the images for stacking?

Lee

Thanks.

1-Pre processing including the stacking phase : from 10 to 20 min depending on how many subs you have for stacking
2-Post processing (PSCS3): depends but in about 15-20 min you have a "nice" final pic

Of course if you are doing HDR pics (M42 is one of many examples because you have a very bright that you must take with 15-30 sec exp. time and a very weak outer nebulosity that you must take with 5-10 min exp...with lots of set in between) you take substantially longer for pre and post process. but that is another story .

Regards,

paulo

You're welcome Paulo.

I'm using PHD as well and am still working out the settings.

If you get a chance could you please post your PHD settings? I would sure appreciate it. Your mount is behaving excellently and maybe I'm just missing something in mine.

Thanks
NH

No problem. Here my settings:

a. RA Agressiveness : 95
b. RA Hysteresis : 14
c. DEC guide mode: Auto
d. DEC Algoritm : Resist...
e. Calibration step: 600 ms
f. Min. Motion pixels : 0.10
g. Search region : 20 pixels
h. Noise reduction : none
i. Time lapse : 2 ms
j. LE Port : 378
k. Force Calibration active

Hope this helps.

Cheers :D,

paulo

Just keep trying. If you have a reasonable mount and a guiding scope you will get it. Just try to learn more about the guiding process because that is the essential part.

Cheers,

paulo

Thank you very much Paulo. I'm going to be working on it in the next two nights from home. The Moon will be up just after midnight so just testing. Hopefully next weekend will be clear enough for our dark site.

I don't really know anything about guiding. What I know is that you have a second scope mounted, which you look through, and use to keep the object centred? But you don't actually make adjustments while you're shooting, do you? I guess getting some sort of auto-guider would enable me to go longer with my exposures.

Just be patient...takes ages to get these sort of images. (Or lots of money!)
