Hello all! I am scheduled to do a shoot (I am fairly new to portrait photography so it is a friend of mine) with a beautiful young lady who is concerned about her weight in the stomach area. Besides the little extra weight she carries in her stomach, she is very beautiful! I would have to say that her large natural breasts are her greatest asset.

I am looking for some different lighting techniques or maybe poses that can be done to mask or conceal the stomach area.

The shoot will be done on a beach in San Diego, CA

Anything will help! Thank you in advance!

Probably get a better response over in the glamour forum. For my two cents, shoot head on with her lying down, facing you?

While that may be true....this isn't a share thread and will probably be moved back here in any case.

Yeah, there are about 3 poses that I can think of and that is one of them. Unfortunately thats all I have. Gotta figure out something. I have a majority of the necessitates(lights and things of that nature), just need to learn the know how now. Thanks for the contributions though!

Such girls don't tend to be skinny anyway (unless they get implants, and then it's just gross and freaky looking). Tell her how well proportioned she is, and make her feel comfortable about it. That tends to be my favorite style anyway. Natural looking, comfortable looking, and not hungry looking.

A couple of ideas;
1. Haver her wear a loose fitting robe for at least an hour prior to the shoot to remove any binding lines from her clothes and underthings.
2. Have her use a good skin moistureizer for about a week on her elbows, knees, throat and nect areas and on her lips to make sure that there are no dry skin areas.
3. If she is going to do her toes and fingernails, make sure they match.
4. If she needs to get any waxing done it should be at least a week prior to the shoot to make sure her skin is not red, same with the eyebrows and over her upper lip.
5. As for poses to reduce the stomach, make sure that she just arches her back as much as possible. (Don't say stick out your b**bs)
6. Don't let her rest her weight on her arms, it makes the tricep look too large. If she wants to do a leaning pose she has to use her abs to support her weight, not her arms.
7. Try to shoot her 45 degrees to the camera as much as possible and keep the camera height 1-1/2' over her head and shoot down on her slightly. The exception of course are 3/4 length and full length shots.
8. Try to ensure that she keeps eye contact with the camera, and use chin directions i.e. Chin up - chin down, tilt or turn her head using her left and her right.
9. Don't shoot every shot from the same side towards the camera.
10. For lighting keep it soft. Also you can use gauzy or real light materials to drape over parts she does not wish to show. Solid color scarfs that match her eyes or hair color work best.

I hope this helps,

Cheers,

Thats a good tip. Whatever you do dont have her holding her stomach, this always makes you look there. You see this so often in these condition shots.

Yep,

Some light weight clothing material will work great, a nice scarf or semi-see through sarong type garment, this would also act like a a childs safety blanket and make her feel more secure and build her confidence. Furthemore having such itms may well add to the qaulity of the overall shot.

My opinion anyway,
