Oops.. I guess we were posting at the same time CKitKat. .. yes, it sounds like you know cutting. .. you're right on all counts. Thanks. (I wasn't offended at his skepticism though - not everyone knows what cutting is all about)

Stuntman.. I think, as I look at this, I've come to realize that maybe it's my 'aim'. (or lack there of). I try to keep the AF spot on the horse's head.. but they move so fast that I'm finding I either over-anticipate and get ahead of the horse... or, the horse moves his head out of my spot of focus. ... In this shot, the back of the saddle is tack sharp.. but the herd is a little soft (even though the detail is there). .. I guess maybe I'll just try to settle down and aim better at the next show. ... (I still might try a deeper dof to compensate for my shortcomings in the 'aim' dept though.. LOL). hmm.. you'd think 1/1250 would be fast enough on the head, wouldn't you? .. I know I've got a few shot at 1/1600 .. I'll see if I can find them to check the differences. .. but really, I think it's mostly because of my bad aim. Thanks for the ideas though.

That is amazing! How can the rider act as if nothing is going on!

lots and lots of training. He may look relaxed but he is very alert of many different factors regarding the work. His job is to not interfere with his horse who is working to keep the cow away from the herd. The objective is to show the judge, in 2.5 minutes, how well the horse can work on his own. (they usually work two to three cows during that time)

I think you shots look just great. I dont think having a little more DOF would hurt anything.

I like the shot. This is one event that I would like to shoot someday.

I'm having a hard time believing this is a true shot. No wrinkles in the shirt...no emotion on the riders face...no leaning with the horse...no muscles tensed up in the rider...just doesn't seem real to me. If it is real, the rider ruins the great shot of the horse.

Thats no fake everyone!!! That right there is an AWESOME shot of a hard cut!!! I wish my horse could get that deep!!! A great capture of the dance of balance and power.... I live in the working horse world, and THAT shot gave me goosebumps!!!

What an amazing 1/1250th of a second !

I love it when a shot gets as much chatter as yours on this forum. Well done.
