P&S and G9 are the best choice. A dSLR worn high on the body is not a good choice. Also with dSLR, you almost always wind up carrying more than the camera with a lens attached. Carried on the bike, if active mountain biking (off road etc...) is going to be tough on the camera.

I'm curious what your experience with the waterproof zipper is? I've heard some very bad reviews about that even when using the supplied special grease. This seems like the perfect pack for mtn biking, but not if I have to struggle with the zipper every time.

I've been looking for a messenger style bag for use while light road riding, but I couldn't find anything that was designed like a bicycle messenger bag, which was kind of frustrating. You may want to look into backpacks...I think I remember seeing one backpack that had a hydration system built in, but I can't remember the name.
