I asked a friend if I could fire off a couple of shots of him riding as I really wanted to give it a go (I mainly shoot automotive & BMX).

Here are the results..

1. Possibly one of my all time fav photos, this is exactly what I set out to get.

2. I wanted to shoot some fisheye stuff, I'm not overly impressed by this, I think the blown out sky detracts from the image.

3. Same drop/jump as 2 but with the Nifty Fifty.

4. Blown out slightly from one of the flashes :-(

I have a few more to process but I'm sat here at work bored so thought I'd share them.

Cheers

Dean

Good work. Like 1 & 3 but just feel there's a bit too much flash, causing a slightly un-natural look and shadows on the face. But otherwise good!

Was just checking the rest of your work while I was at work and the BMX work was great, this is just awesome.

i really like the angle on #2, i wonder if selective color editing on the sky would get it a bit more blue.

Thanks for the feedback.

The camera was close, probably a foot away but my head was a lot closer!

The first picture is excellent, you've set a high standard for yourself keep it up...:)
The third is also good, would normally not be a fan of the fourth but as its part of a set at the same place its fits in well.

holy sh#@! amazing stuff. the lighting on the first is just spectacular. I also really like how the trees naturally frame the rider in the first and last images. The lighting in the last is also very interesting since the trees are lit ahead of the rider just as the rider is lit. on the fisheye, it's not so much the sky that I don't like as I just think the distortion is too much.

truly great stuff here. mind sharing the flash setup on #1. obviously, camera right but looks like it must have been ground level. the second flash??

I like #1 too but I agree with primalcarl, just a little too much flash.

On number 2 I'm not sure the blown sky is a huge issue - I still really like it, and the converging verticals work in this context really well for me. No doubt a dramatic sky would add to it, but it'd be a hell of a job to light all those trees well and knock the sky down for detail.

Not at all.

There is one flash behind the tree on the right acting as rim, and then one either side diagonally in front of the rider. All flashes were set at around 6ft above ground.

I'll see what I can do :-) 3 flashes were used in all of these shots.
