Nothing of any interest really just nice simple comps. Was a pain in the backside shooting at midday though!

1. Pocket air

2. Ice pick. I just love the tree on the horizon, I might move it to the right in PS and see how it looks :-)

I would like alittle less of the bowl, and a tad more of the sky...

Great shots though! Good lighting, good location, and good rider.

no offense guys but I disagree on the comp crit on #2. Sky would add little to the image whereas the bowl shows that this was indeed a pretty decent sized icepick. You'd lose that if you cropped the bowl out. On the other hand, I don't like the straight on perspective at all.

It would look like was icepicking a street gutter if the OP didn't show as much of the ramp on #2.

Hmm, I really like these shots. Maybe its because they are a little different from the rest, different angles etc. I think the tree is a little distractive, but if you like it thats what matters. I agree with what was said aboove, get a little more sky and less bowl. Not alot though, just get the rule of thirds happening.

Good work and keep it up, Sam:)

Which is why there is less sky and more bowl, if you look, the rider is placed according to the rules of third...or there abouts.

Cant say that I see it:(. Do you have any more with less bowl and more sky, I think Id just like to see it framed different, just so I can make a judgement. Im not saying the photos are bad or anything, just that I think having the shot framed differently would add a little more. I dont know that without seeing one like I mentioned though.

I think these shots are great. If you are going to critique these kind of photos, I think you should know a little about the sport other than saying "it should be cropped like this etc...", because it is the norm to do. If the OP cropped out the ramp in #2, it would be like what namasste said, "Sky would add little to the image whereas the bowl shows that this was indeed a pretty decent sized icepick."

If you are implying I know nothing about the sport, look at my threads. The majority are biking threads, they may not be bmx but they are still biking, right? I know exactly what you are saying, if there was more sky and less bowl the icepick wouldnt be as impressive, but I think as a picture it could be more visually appealing for the audience to look at if it was framed a little differently. For the rider, its great but for the wider audience, its more impressive if their eyes are drawn towards the rider, and not the wall of concrete below him.

Well i think 1 is brilliant! Like how there is a lot of bowl! Think it actually adds to the shot, and the sport!

Like 2 to, and agree with you, the tree is brilliant!

Brilliant light as per usual! don't think you have posted a shot Dean which i don't like :) Keep up the good work man!

Is this a Photography Forum or a Sports Forum?

Its photography forum but this is the sports section. Don't you think that if you knew more about the sport you would know when to time your shot? I know for a fact that if I were to take pictures of a baseball game I wouldn't get those timeless shots when the batter was about to hit ball because I don't know any of the techniques involved. I'm sure there's more to it than just to swing at the ball.

Also Sam, my fault, I didn't mean to imply my remark directly at you but it was just a general statement.
