Also this is a clear reason why i won't be taking photos of a certain team if i get shot again by them. My poor little F/2.8L lens... :(

OMFG!!!!! at least you have a filter on the 70-200... makes me wonder about the 300 and/or 400. I know there's a member here that shoots paint ball with the 300.

why was the player shooting you anyway?

My Hoya died after taking about 5 hits to it with no issue. I'll be going with a clear protection Hoya next instead of the UV and see if there is any truth to the rumors of paint eating the UV filter.

Nice shots though

meh, i have about 20 Hoya filters here... They were on sale hahah. Soo i just take it off after and through it away, snap on a new one and away i go haha..
That shot that got my lens was hit by the hood and then lens soo i don't believe it was a fully direct hit.
Oh well.. As long as it doens't look like Gary Baum's lens i'll be fine

problem is a breaking filter is more likely to scratch your frontlens than a paintball damaging it....

the truth surfaces... my heart is too weak to shoot paintball, unless they provide me with their own glass.

I will be crying without tears if that happens to my glass

OMG Who would do that to an expensive camera...….wait a minute that’s my camera and my picture lol

I have been shooting all types of paintball all over the world for the past seven years, probably longer than anybody and I would never shoot an event without a filter. I know that better pictures could probably be produced without a filter but I use one to protect almost all of my lenses. Since paintball photographers work in a very dirty, oily, gritty environment and due to the frequent paint splatters we have to clean our lenses several times per hour. The filter is to protect the front element form all of these repeated cleanings not to protect the lens from a paintball strike. Once a filter breaks then you have a real mess because you have to not only clean off the paint but you must be very careful to carefully remove all the shards of broken glass, I use copious amount of water to do this.

As most people on this forum probably know I break more lenses than anyone and I am know in the paintball photography as the photographer that gets hit the most. I regard my cameras as tools of my trade and they are well used and show their wear. If you are worried about damaging your equipment or getting hurt then you will not get good pictures and you should not be photographing paintball…:)

Great pictures Jeremy….if you want to see more of Jeremy’s pictures we have just put up a gallery of his work at www.paintballphotography.com (external link)

Is that an automag in pic 1?? Superb shots. I'm way to chicken to bring my 70-200 to shoot paintball events, filter or no. That shot of the broken front element sends chills down my spine.

Insurance baby. If I were in the business and made a good penny at it I would have multiples of everything or have the ability to get a lens within a hour from a local store.

Nice pictures BTW and your little 2.8 is a beast, remember that. I want to take a piece of bulletproof glass or something and create my own filter LOL.
