so i invested in a 40d this month for no other reason then hating terrible quality pics that everyone else take when im out snowboardin and now im completly stoked on it! so that bein said im a broke shred bum lookin for some entry level advice on some future investments for next season. im seeking advice for some different lenses and portable strobes. a wide angle is a must have but whats good for the money? should i get a fisheye of somekind or a super wide zoom lense? any big diferences? telephoto and macros too( for across mountain side shots and wild flowers). also for strobes( thats if im callin them the right thing) i need somethin cheap but can get the job done right. somethin i can pack around and take to places where electrical outlets arent possibilities. would some sheap halogen work lights be a good start for some extra light? i dont know any names of reliable brands but if u guys can help me out with some reliable sources i can do my homework. all of the photo shops in my town r closed up cuz of wal-mart and target so i seek online advice. here some pics for style im aiming for:

Welcome to POTN!

First, if you want to show something that you haven't personally shot, you can just post a link to it. © issues?

"Halogen" is short for Quartz halogen, & they need to be plugged in.

Before w can recommend lenses for you, it would be nice if we knew what sort of a budget you have to work with. Then these guys will be happy to spend your money.

also for strobes( thats if im callin them the right thing) i need somethin cheap but can get the job done right.

Again, defining the job will help. Night sports? Portrait? Parties? Some will do it all, but some won't. I like these, but I'm a manual mode guy.

thanks mod for keepin me out of trouble. i guess night sports would kind of be the category im aiming for. for snowboarding all the locations id shoot would be planned but there will still be tons of movement( ei: stair sets, handrails, trees, etc...). my budget isnt all that big either. maybe $1500 for the summer? depending on how well its all going for me( still got college and new riding gear to pay for). but im not afraid to save for some equipment and i have some reserve funds if any body has any smokin deals on used equipment that might help me progress in this direction...

Generally, what you already have should work well outside in daylight. Faster glass would allow you to shoot at smaller # f-stops to help isolate the backgrounds & also would be good inside. Maybe think about the 85mm f/1.8

if any body has any smokin deals on used equipment

Looked in Marketplace?
