I'm not aware of any test with the cap on but I 100% agree with Jo, go out and use it and have fun! If there are any probs you'll soon become aware of them

The "test" with cap on is to reduce sensor noise.

1. Leave cap ON lens
2. Activate MANUAL cleaning mode
3. When mirror flicks up wait about a minute.
4. Turn camera OFF then use as normal. (you can then turn on and take pics)

Its reputed to reduce sensor noise but its not necessary.

Best way to test your camera is to take lots of pics. If you have any questions or anything looks strange then do a search here to see if there is a topic on the matter.

av3ngr;

Unless you acquired the camera from a "dodgy-dealer" you have at least a one-year manufacturers warrenty on the unit...

Don't worry about it. Use it with a selection of lenses, and with a few different function settings - that's the very best way of determining whether or not there are any problems...

As far as the "cap" test goes, I "think" that all you will see is any blown pixels. Not a factor, because they can be programmed out if there is a real problem...

Cheers;

Lee

The noise reduction is operated by a custom function. It happens automatically if the custom function is activated. When you take a long exposure photo, the camera takes a second photo without opening the shutter to get a photo that is just noise. It then uses this to reduce the noise in the actual photo. This can slow down your photography, as if you take a 30 second photo, the camera must take a thirty second exposure for noise reduction.

Your talking about a dark frame test used to check for noise. Just take a pic with the body cap on and look at the image. Some noise is normal and depending on the length of exposure and ISO the noise can vary. If a pixel is hot, you’ll see one like a beacon shining away. If you get one, maybe two like this, do the mapping fix listed above. If there are a bunch, you might consider swapping bodies.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Not noise, but hot pixels can be shown this way...
