I would try that too...but it would entail removing my lint collection.

Oh, well, never mind.

what mode do you shoot in for panning? (I 99.9% of the time shoot in M...but suddenly I realized that maybe that wouldn't be best)

I think I'll set up both cameras. One for panning and one for distance shots. Our motorcycle shoot is on the open roads so no stadium or sidelines. We just get to the assigned places before the motorcycles.

you can use manual if you want but its too much faff to change settings on the fly if some one gets it wrong

and I normaly change it so i have shutter speed on the big rear dial and ec on the small thumb dial
this allows me to change shutter speed while keeping my finger on the trigger, what you need if some one crashes

The aperture is going to depend on your shutter speed. When panning, I typically use Tv...set my desired shutter speed and ISO....usually 100 for daytime shots and then let the camera follow the aperture as necessary. You can have some fairly radical changes in the lighting as you pan across the horizon.

I don't think we'll have crash issues (at least I hope not). We're shooting an event for a motorcycle club's fundraiser.

This is with a mk2n ISO 100, 1/200 and f/13.....70mm....w/70-200....I was about 10 feet back from the edge of the road....depending on where you are...the 300 may be way too long.
