So I'm helping my boss put on a slide show for a benefit he's doing for Army Veterans... I know nothing about the benefit, but I get all the photo editing tasks put on me, which i don't mind at ALL it's just I don't know how to do them. HELP

Could someone give me some restoration tips on how to restore a photo like this? I'm using CS3, have lightroom, will travel... haha jk

I'm not sure how much you can do with that. There isn't damage, per se, just a poor copy of a reproduction. I think the best you might do is run despeckle or reduce noise and then re-sharpen.

To really get the best result would take a long time of smoothing out all of the dot pitch and probably wouldn't be worth it if you have multiples of these to do. Honestly it is easier to do if you have an actual damaged photo and not just a bad repro.

In CS3, Filter > Noise > Despeckle, will be a good place to start.

Well working from such a small sample covers up alot but

IMAGE: http://img389.imageshack.us/img389/361/edwardleondavisarmybl8.jpg

I used a noise reduction program but increased the power on the luminance and reduced the color noise amounts.

When I got a look that I thought looked OK I applied the NR.

Next I duped this new image layer and used a very small amount of sharpening to only the subject buy using a mask.

Applied a curves layer to adjust the image.

about 2 minute workup ;)
