In your opinion, what is the most over-priced camera equipment? To me, it has to be on-camera flash. When I got my first digital camera last year, I thought that a flash would be about $100. I was shocked to see that even the basic unit for my XTi, the 430 EX was nearly $300! Compare two 580EX's, around $800, to a good quality studio kit like the one I purchased, an Elinchrom d-Lite 4 kit for about the same price. You get two powerful heads, two light stands, two softboxes, cords, cool cases, all for about the same price as the 580's. Canon HAS to be making a killing off their flashes!

6D, G9, Sigma 50 1.4, Sigma 15mm Fisheye, Sigma 50 2.8 macro, Nikon 14-24G 2.8, Canon 16-35 2.8 II, Canon 24-105 f/4 IS, Canon 70-200 2.8 IS, tripod, lights, other stuff.

OEM lens hood replacements. $50 for a piece of felted black plastic because the hood from my 24 fell off a bridge; it probably cost under $4 to produce.

To truly be overpriced, it would have to be a product nobody ever buys.

For something to be over priced it has to be something that everyone wants (demand) and only has a limited quantity (supply).

Without getting too academic, I was thinking alog the lines of stuff we have to buy, like ink.

IMO the Canon 1200mm is over priced. It's just an assumption though since I don't know the actual cost and amount of work that goes into making one.

Well consider the 800 f5.6 will be around @12,000, the 1200 f5.6 being at 99k is a huge expense. However, there weren't many produced because they were only made if custom ordered and they have tons of glass. The lens weighs 36 lbs. - that's a lot of glass. I can see the price being high to produce this lens.

Canon 1D3, Sigma 70-200 f2.8, Sigma 120-300 f2.8 (sale), 1.4x converter, 580EX.

Sigma 200-500 2.8 Lens. At 25k or something stupid like that, that's definitely insane. I wouldn't buy it, not when I could get a 100-400 for less than that price and bump up my ISO a bit to compensate.

1D cameras. $4500 for 1D mk3 and $8000 for 1Ds mk3 is outrageous.
