Filters, off-camera flash leads and remote shutter releases.
Also, I'm sure I read somewhere that a replacement carbon fibre lens hood for one of the expensive L series lenses was about £600. That sounded a bit on the expensive side too!

At 25k or something stupid like that, that's definitely insane. I wouldn't buy it, not when I could get a 100-400 for less than that price and bump up my ISO a bit to compensate. Yes but you forget the lens is a constant f2.8. I personally would hate to use such cumbersome lens and would rather use a 400 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8 combination. Canon 1D3, Sigma 70-200 f2.8, Sigma 120-300 f2.8 (sale), 1.4x converter, 580EX.

Yeah I was going to say this. I got my f/4 and thought it was a tad heavy, would be nice to get the tripod ring. For that price I'll just live with it.

To me, it has to be on-camera flash. When I got my first digital camera last year, I thought that a flash would be about $100. I was shocked to see that even the basic unit for my XTi, the 430 EX was nearly $300! Compare two 580EX's, around $800, to a good quality studio kit like the one I purchased, an Elinchrom d-Lite 4 kit for about the same price. You get two powerful heads, two light stands, two softboxes, cords, cool cases, all for about the same price as the 580's. Canon HAS to be making a killing off their flashes! Nothing that can improve the quality of your images a hundred fold is overpriced. Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here
