In case if anyone's interested, Phil finally released his review of this camera:

450D Review (external link)

Overall he seems to like it a lot for image quality. Like what most ppl have said in these forums, the camera is a bit pricey for what you get. I agree w/ most of the pros and cons he's mentioned. Overall, it's a very mature product compared to the earlier Rebel series, but I wouldn't recommend it to people unless they're serious about learning an SLR system due to the amount required to invest into it. There are far better cameras out there with respect to price/performance.

Wow - based on the side-by-side photos, it looks like the 400D (XTi) takes better pictures.

I'm glad he gave it a mostly positive review. I love mine and everyday is a photographic adventure. I know the Xsi doesn't command the respect of the 40D or the D5 but honestly, it's a fine camera and can help you take excellent photographs.

the EOS 450D's resolution and per-pixel sharpness advantage over the (admittedly far less pricey) D60 is obvious, and in fact these are some of the most detailed results we've ever seen from a non-professional Canon DSLR

;)

I really like the 450D. I would recommend it to anyone who came in looking for a good SLR

Looks like another evolutionary step for a Canon product.
I think it's a nice camera, especially pared with the kit lens.

Contrast detect AF so slow it's useless for most types of photography

I'm not sure what they're expecting at this point. They never said anything about the D300's contrast-based AF being slow (and yes, it is).
