so canon came out with a stunning new commercial for the Rebel XSi that really shows some stunning images but non of the images in the commercial were actually shot with the XSi. instead, all of the images in the commercial were shot by 10 different photographers all using the 1DmkIII :)

btw, i am only posting this because i found it to be amusing, i have no problem with Canon or with advertising in general (Canon is not the first or last company to do something like this). i just hope that nobody will be stupid enough to look at this commercial and think "oh, if i buy this XSi, i can get these kind of shots..."

They definitely were a little shady about this. They say "almost all were taken on Canon EOS cameras", not on "this camera"; so technically its not lying but its obviously not a legitimate example of what the camera can do.

Shooting with the Canon 5D & Nikon D300... and now the 20D!

From what I hear, the XSi is a very capable camera, and the shots probably won't be all that different from those taken with a 1DmkIII, everything else being equal.

If you see on the side panel you can see how the commercial was shot and its has a whole bunch of guys using 1D's when taking the shots. Thats how, ha.

I hate that advert.it promotes nothing good about the art of photography.

Well the rebel series is supposed to be geared towards family to take photos of there kids. Hence why in the beginning it has a mom taking a picture of her son and his dad playing football. So i agree with you, but that was not canons intension's with this series.

I think coupled with the right lens, the XSi could achieve similar shots.

That's surely false advertising? I mean even if it said in the small print 'these shots were not taken with a XSi', to me it still shouldn't be allowed because who the heck reads the small print anyway.

People will presume the shots are taken with a XSi - its wrong wrong wrong.

Maybe some of the images, but the XSI doesn't have the frame rate to take the series of shots in the commercial.

Those are funny looking XSI's, aren't they? Looks like a very nice kit lens that comes with it also. ;)

The story telling concept of the commercial is kind of neat but it should have been used to market the camera and lenses used to create the image. All of those frames were shot with 1 series with L glass, and they are marketing an XSI and kit lens. Tell me that's not setting someone up for disappointment?
