As far as the survey goes: the people that I know who use Nikon choose it because they like the bodies more than they like the Canon ones.

Yeah and guess what? The people who chose Canon did so because they liked the bodies more than they like the Nikon ones.

Very true! Canon's seem to have a better layout.. Nikons are confusing and the D80 does'nt feel good in my hands. Nothing has felt better than a 30D to me.

As far as shutter sound I like how my XTi sounds. The XT on the other hand... sounds a bit weak. (That and the larger LCD helped with my desision XT vs XTi) I played with a D40 and D80 and they have a very different sound then Canon, dunno if I like it or not.

Canon 60D, 30D

with all due respect nikons are inherintly easier to use than canons for new comers. the lack of buttons and ease of just spinning the dial on top, pointing, and shooting (d40-d60) compared to ALL The buttons on the back of the camera (xti xsi). Of course once/if that particular user gets a clue about how to work their camera, the nikons become more frusterating since all of the settings are hidden in menus.

The reason I choose canon? Lenses.

i like the hard shutter click, makes it sound like a real camera.,. on that note a friend at work says she is going with nikon cause her pro friend says Nikon has superior ISO level / noise, better lense and are cheapper?

i always thought canon was superior in the lense / noise area

That is your oppinion and perhaps they are designed to be but it doesn't mean that it works that way for everybody. My last camera was a Sony H5 point and shoot, which has lots of buttons on the back. When I was DSLR shopping the XT/XTi seemed to come naturally to me as far as menu and controls. The Nikons/Sony/etc seemed more confusing to me. This was without any prior DSLR experience.

Competition is good. I am so glad there is a dark lord Nikon to my beloved Canon. :-)

Lol. Seriously tho.

Loyalty is a funny thing. It creates all sorts of kooky biased complaints and criticisms that mean little to most, but become vastly important for whatever reason to the loyalist.

Like shutter noise. Who cares? Personally I don't. But Apparently this guy does.

Actually, after reading this post, I went to youtube and compared the shutter sounds of the nikon D300 and the canon 40D. Being a biased Canonite, it was no surprise that I found myself preferring the Canon's shutter sound. Lol. Honestly. I thought the Nikon had an annoyingly higher pitch. Lol. But really.

Maybe if I was a loyal Nikon lover, I could learn to love it, much like how you're willing to overlook a woman with a high pitched voice that can shatter glass...but that grows on you. Fran Drescher anyone? Lol. Who cares?

I have my own eccentric reasons for preferring Canon over Nikon. And I also have some valid reasons I think are important. But It's a very personal love affair. Full of passions and compromises...AND excuses.

Because like in any love affair, Canon will do some things that piss me off on occassion too.

But at the end of the day, I am a loyal Canonite...so i overlook them. Much like you'd overlook the imperfections of a loved one. It's just the way it is. :-)

That being said, I am patiently waiting for Canon to update the 5D. Not that I find the D3 sexier, but...I am human...and I do notice these things. But I love Canon, and when the 5D turns to me and says, "Do I look fat in this dress?"....I without blinking immediately reply..."No honey, you look sexy as ever!" ....um...even tho I am secretly thinking it could lose a few pounds. heh heh heh.

What can I say? I'm in love with Canon. Nikon may have stolen alittle thunder lately...but thats a good thing! It'll get Canon back into that gym so it can squeeze into that sexy dress and turn everyone's head back again.

And they will. :-)

In the meantime, I will get the 40D with the cash rebate and start shooting.

Great Post!

Yup, just a soon as they've reversed engineered a Nikon D3, a 1D3 copy will be out ~ actually, going on Canon's past performance, it should have been out already. :)

I wouldn't say Canon shutter noise is bad. But it's true that shutter noise of 1d and 1dmk2 was nicer then the one from 1dmk3. And I definitely agree that shutter noise of 5d,40/30/20/10d, 400d... is not nice to hear. But when it comes to all that... does it really matter what kinda noise camera makes?

Like I said before, it depends on the situation. I have had to rent a blimp once or twice for shooting in courtrooms, they work great for noise but really hamper the shooters ability to hold the camera.

I have seen pelicans cases modded to hold bodies and reduce noise to a whisper. Movie sets require that the still shooters use either a blimp or other noise canceling casing. But I don't think it is as crucial as it used to be with digital sound recording.

99% of all situations the shutter noise is not an issue. But churches, theaters and some concerts they can be a real bother.

I wouldn't lump the 10D with those other bodies. It's actually a rather quiet camera and not very clunky in comparison. Sounds better than my 1D II.

For me there are many more important things to consider than the sound the shutter makes. As for my next camera, the first company that makes downloadable shutter sounds will lose my business.

Aw come 'on you know that you want your 5DMkIIIn to download either the "eagle screech" (that is not really an eagle) or a silenced machine pistol:rolleyes:;)
