Tilley all the way and all year round, even when it is not that sunny  . They say, it floats, repels rain and mildew, won't shrink and will be replaced free if it wears out (yes, put it in your will.) I am not sure I believe ALL of that, but, at least you can carry extra memory cards in the little velcro storage part in the top of the hat, and, besides, you can stick those little tourist pins in the side of the hat (if you are so inclined).

Cheers,

WesternGuy

Don't wear a one size fits all baseball cap backwards..

It not only looks doofus but, if you wear it in the hot sun for a sufficient time, you will have a creatively shaped suntanned or sunburned spot on your forehead...

People say I look older than I am as it is, so not cowboy or fisherman hat for me. Whatever ball cap I wear that day if any. If it's hot though, why wear a cap? Just makes your head hotter.

See that is why you only look older than you are. If you were older and sporting the mandatory bald spot the benefit of covering that up in the bright sun becomes obvious. :D

The Tiley ( http://www.tilley.com …extractBy=CategoryId&id=1 (external link) )
was recommended to me and they look great and seem well made. They are known for fitting lower and I would think this would be a disadvantage for photographers.

I'm tired of turning a ball cap backwards to shoot and would prefer a decent brimmed hat.

Any suggestions?

how about something with color :D?

I'm too young to pull off a fisherman's hat.

In the world of Viz that is a very funny comment :-)

I like the Australian Akubra but I only wear one on safari, due to sun and to use as a fan as necessary.

This is what I use for all my outdoor aviation shooting and believe me there is no shade when shooting airshows.

I have hair too, but I prefer to shelter my eyes as much as possible from (cataract-inducing) UV rays. Hence the Tilley.

For that I'm just tan. :D Ya know there is this thing called sunblock though. Not sure what it does though. I think the name may describe its uses a bit...
