The most common and descriptive name for a "macro filter" is "closeup lens". I have a Canon 500D (pricy as hell), and it really limits the maximum focus distance of any lens. On my 24/105 at a FL of 105 mm, the maximum focus distance is about three feet; at 24 mm, it's about eight feet. Obviously neither are anywhere near infinity.

Regarding the UV filter; if it's high quality, then it will seldom cause problems (seldom, not never). The B+W filters are high quality (as are another German brand - Rodenstock - I have two of each).

I also hope you are using the lens hood - always. A little bit of light on a UV filter (particularly a cheap one), or light on the lens, and you'll encounter lens flare.

It's a pretty decent one and I don't use a hood, should I get one?

Very cool although I've never heard of Krauss and the union Station and I go further back for my influences such as

BB-King.
Bukka White.
Muddy Waters.
John Lee Hooker.
Ry Coder.
Angus Young.
Derek Trucks.
Sea Sick Steve "indie blues"

Those are basically my guitar idols.

Today the store owner where I take lessons just called me Blind Lemon Robinson since I wear glasses and my last name is Robinson lol

So that felt really good.

I've read on this forum it was a good idea to use a macro filter when you shoot in tv mode and or portret mode.

No to all of that.
I don't like Tv, Av, etc for subjects that aren't changing as the white chair will affect the meter reading, too.
How the subject affects the exposure & why manual keeps me worry free:

First set the f-stop & shutter speed you need. Then adjust the ISO.
Need an exposure crutch?

Yes, especially if there's something bright like the chair in, or close to the frame of the image. Even expensive L glass needs help with flare.

I used to use a closeup filter on my Sony H5. It was great for shooting flowers or pictures of my cats when I was within a few feet of them. But in your shot there (shot at 55mm) was obviously taken from some distance, and the closeup filter will not fuction correctly. It's a specialty thing, keep it off for general shooting.

Well, the white balance still looks off a bit ;) - except for the guys' faces.

I don't doubt that the room was yellow, but the guy on our left sure has a bad sunburn on his legs.;) Actually they all seem to have been out in the sun too long.:)

Seriously? The WB is off quite a bit; other than that, it's fine.

But I'd like to see more expression on the musicians' faces.

When did voluptuous become voluminous?

I was using the gray card white balance trick and I really can't show the faces because of the permission issue.

And thanks :)
