And so far you should have a good fast prime lens in your arsenal. Im very pleased with my used Canon 50 F\1.8 that just bought today.

Every time I even remotely think about getting rid of mine, I go out and take pictures with it and remind myself why I have it.

You're so right. I'm in that category as well.

Great little lens. How did you manage circular bokeh in the first picture?

when you shoot at f1.8 it's circular because the aperture blades do not close in at all. hence "wide-open".

I like this lens but the background blur can be very harsh at 1.8.

I love mine too. Only gripe would be when it is wide open it is very easy to miss your intended focus point. You know what I am talking about, where you are aiming for the eyes and end up with an earlobe thats tack sharp!

Locking the center point helped a lot, but it still happens occasionally. This could be tied to the XTs older AF though (or my lack of talent! ).

What was the subject distance for the first picture? I'm guessing 8-10 feet to get the nose as well as the ears sharp at f1.8.

Good purchase, and a good introduction to the world of prime lenses.

Once you go prime, you don't go back (to slow zooms, that is) ;)

I have to disagree. This is one of the reasons why I love the nifty fifty. The bokeh is gorgeous!
