show me your Christmas light decor

Here's one of mine.
I've try so many shot with my canon 10D, 28/135mm lense, I set it at f3.5, 1 second. The pictures did not came out right, how can I improve and what's the technique?
I use my G2, set it at f8, 4 seconds, the result came out much better.
