I was offer a vendors booth space at a local jazzfest. In return I have to cover the 2 main acts for the 3 day event. Each act is performing a 1 hr. set. This vendors space is a 400 dollar space. If you was offered this opportunity how would you best use the space?

Um, what are the image usage terms like? Do they get all the rights to the photos? Do the expect you to do processing? Can you sell prints of the show at the booth?

"Local" can have a range of meanings, so it's hard to say how much money you should expect or ask for. But if you're putting in a lot of time, you should definitely have something to show for your efforts. They're charging $400 for a booth space...so they should be able to pay you.

There are only going to use them for promotional material. those are the only right they will have. Yes I will have to process. There will be no selling of pictures taking of the acts at my vendor space.

This is a 3 day event. I only have to cover two acts per day each having a one hour set. Get a few shots of the crowd and people interacting each day. This is a non-profit event. All proceeds are going to a adaption organization.

My thought was to promote my business by taking photos of people and print them for a small fee. Donate a $1 to the organization.

This probably isn't your best idea. No one goes to concerts to get pictures taken. Especially since they will probably be hot and sweaty. I would see if you could cover all acts, and sell prints of the acts that you shoot that day. Thats probably the only way you would make any sort of money.

This is not a concert in the sense. It's a fund raiser with live entertainment.

Three days of work for $400 does not seem like a good return. Not sure of the setup but does not sound like you will have much of a chance for promotion if you have lots of work to be done.

I am mixed on this one. It seems like a low pay rate. But it could be a opening to a job that does pay. You never know when you get a potential customers attention.

I would probably do it if I had nothing else scheduled on those days. Use the booth for marketing rather than worrying about Sales ( but still offer as you mentioned) just let it go if nobody takes the offer. Instead just market yourself. Have all your handouts ready and some great images hanging.... basically be a PR person. Then shoot the main acts. Print a big image to hang in the booth the next day. and start all over.

I agree with Mark ... have big pictures in the booth from the previous day and hand out cards with a website where they might buy pictures later ... lots of cards.

Here is a link to the fest http://www.hawkinsjazzfest.org/ (external link)

The artist list are the main acts each day. I will approximately have about 5 hrs each day to promote/oversee booth. The idea to sell photos taking is just to get pictures out with business cards. I did plan on hanging photos or event have a slideshow on a 22" wide screen. Even when I will be working I will have a attendant there.
