Some of my Skateboarding pix!

Skateboarding will always be one of my passions! I skated for 15 years and now that I dont anymore Ive been trying to include it in my photography, here are some of my skate shots!.

I'm a skate photography newbie myself Tony. Anyway, my 2 cents:

Shot #1: Seems to be a lot going on the background. Shadows are also distracting. Probably could have eliminated both issues by getting closer to the subject. Also shooting when it is not super sunny out will probably eliminate the shadow issue.

Shot # 2-4: The lighting seems to bug me a little. Sort of seems like the foreground is way overexposed while the background is way underexposed. Maybe (not sure if it will work) you can turn down the fill flash a little (to fix the overexposed foreground) while bumping up the ISO/lowering shutter speed a little to pick up more ambient light in the background? Also shot #4 is a butt shot. I learned here on POTN that people apparently don't like butt shots.

5) This shot could be improved if you were closer (maybe right below him or near him at the base of the wall) in my opinion. The shadows and the photog I think distracts user from the subject.

6) I like this shot in B&W. Only thing is I am not sure who your subject is. The girl or the skater. If the subject is the girl maybe you could have use a shallower DOF so the skater is more blurred out?

Hopefully someone with more experience can give you better pointers. Maybe they can even correct my pointers in case some of the advice I give you is slightly incorrect.

hey man thanks for taking the time and giving me those very good pointers! defiantelly helpful. All photos except for the last 2 were taken during a contest, so I really didnt have time or room to play around with the flash positioning. Maybe Ill try to find someone to do a private shoot.
