... of demoiselles. I took these within two days of each other.

The first two are beautiful demoiselles, which like fast flowing water and a little shade. Males were still feeding up away from the stream when I snapped these. Taken near a small brook not far from where I live.

This is a female:

and a male:

The next two are banded demoiselles, which like still or slow moving water. These were snapped on the banks of the River Avon near Bristol UK.

This is a female. Curiously, she lacks the pseudo-pterostigma that females of both species usually have (white spots on the wing tips) but it's definitely a female.

This is a male. He periodically stretched his wings while basking so I timed the snap to coincide with him doing it.

Scarce chasers are beginning to emerge now. These are nationally quite scarce, hence the name, but their range is increasing and locally, near me, they're quite abundant.

This is a female:

and this is a male. After a week or so, it will exude a puriescence in its abdomen turning it pale blue.

All taken with the old 70-210 F4 with Canon 500D close up lens. C&C appreciated. :)

+1. Brilliant shots with the damsels. I can only wish to get shots like that.

Brilliant series Eccles.

For once I'm at a loss to pick a favourite. They are all excellent.

Mike - all of these shots are absolutely stunning. The colour and clarity of them is wonderful.

Cracking pics Mike, the best I have seen of these damsels and a real pleasure to view them. Well done.
