Whether or not you are a professional photographer, this bill affects us all. Now is the time to write to your senator! It has been introduced into the senate and it's been behind closed doors. This needs to be put on hold until it can be discussed publicly. Here's a link to the update from the ASMP: http://www.asmp.org …pec2008/orphan_update.php (external link)

In the mean time, put your mark on every shot you produce! If you shoot RAW, FILL OUT THAT METADATA!! And remember, never use "Save for Web"!

I just sent slightly modified copies of that ASMP letter to both my senators.

The letter is the same that NANPA and others are distributing and encouraging we send, by the way.

This is definitely worth taking the few minutes to send something off. It will be worth more to any photographer that the 20 minutes you might have otherwise spent learning a new technique in photoshop, reading this forum, taking a few more awesome images, or most anything else related to photography.

Wouldn't it be nice to make $500 per hour? I guarantee that if you take 20 minutes to fire off some letters, it will come back you in dollars down the road. And $500 is probably conservative. Seriously, forget about doing this for others, the industry, or the good of all photographers. You need to do this for yourself plain and simple.
