Guys,

When shooting weddings i have a Metz 76 attached to my 1Dm2n AND a 58 AF-1 attached to a 30D.

Now heres the question:

Can i use my 76 to trigger the 58 remotely? Or vice versa?
i am considering dipping my toe into the multi flash set up but can't seem to get my head around the instruction manual.

As anyone done this successfully?

Thanks

Jon, the problem is that the Metz 76 is Metz wireless compatible, whereas the 58AF1 was deliberately designed to be Canon wireless compatible, and never the twain shall meet.

Except in the land of optical slave triggering (and, of course, RF remote triggering). :D

Jonny, Metz invented their wireless flash system long before Canon developed theirs, and their works regardless of the brand of camera that you use it with!

I want the metz 76 to trigger the Metz 58.

But apparently the 76 uses the Metz system and the 58 uses the Canon system and therefore one can't trigger the other.

Exactly! Canon does not publish information about their flash systems, so companies have to reverse engineer in order to make a 'Canon compatible' wireless flash system...it took a while for that to happen!

But surely Metz should have included both systems and left and option for the user to switch between the two.

Idiots!

Perhaps not idiots, perhaps the compatibility with one system was deliberate so as to keep the cost of the unit down to where consumers would not complaint about unaffordability! Yes, it would have made best sense for dual wireless compatibility, but at what cost?! Ever ask yourself why a company like Motorola did not make a single RAZR wireless phone which was compatible with all three major cell phone networks?!
