The quality is pretty much the same except the price difference. It'll be fine with the 70-200 f/4, you lose one stop of light so it'll become f/5.6 but you'll still be able to autofocus with it.

i just bought one so i hope so :) (based on asking a similar question to you on these forums and some research). general consensus seems to be that they are largely the same in terms of IQ and thus the canon is not worth the price tag.

Everything I have read seems to indicate that it's the equal of Canons expensive TC at a fraction of the cost.

I use one myself, but with the last 3 pins on the top right taped over to fool my 30D into auto focusing with my 100-400 L IS. The cheaper Kenko 1.4x works with the AF without having to tape anything, but its not the quality of the PRO 300 C-AF.

I have both the Canon 1.4 and Kenko pro 1.4 and reckon there is very little in it as far as IQ goes.

I have the Kenko 1.4x, works great on my 70-200 f4 IS, still razor sharp in the centre of the image, a little softer in the corners. IS still works perfectly & AF is still fast.
