Hello all i am a newbie to canon 40D and loving it so far. I had my first indoor party i attended as a guest with camera at hand.I dont have a flash as of yet but looking at canon 580 flash.i had one camera store try and offer me a off brand saying just as good. my question is when trying to take a picture inside i had a difficult time kepting getting the red flashing light i guess trying to focus under low light. What setting should i be on indoors. Also how do i do a multi shot adjustment in other modes and which modes are available. I do alot of outdoor shots. this camera has so much adjustment. thank you in advance for all your help.

stu:)

ye, focus point light or AF assist light?
read some photography books and then the manual is my best advice.

indoors? generally manual or Av if you need to be quick
what do you mean multi shot adjustment?

also, lol @ has so much adjustment.
bit hard to read that mate, next time, using paragraphs would be good, as its much easier to understand

Be very wary about shooting on Av or Tv with flash. It doesn't work like Av without flash. It attempts to use the flash for fill only. It may choose crazy low shutter speeds.

Put the cam on manual. Put the ISO on 400 for normal indoors, bounce the flash off the ceiling (if they are normal height), f/stop wide open, shutter at 1/125 , pull up the diffuser on the flash just a little to send a little light foward, and give it a go.

The flash exposes for the main subject. If you change the manual settings (e.g. ISO or SS), the flash still exposes for the main subject, but the brightness of the background changes.

Try some of that, let us know if it works for you.
