You might check it in your card reader instead of in the camera. Just in case there's some moisture lurking.

If you can read it and format it, it's good as new.

As titled stated my Gf washed my clothes w/o checking my pockets and i had 2 brand new cards in the case holder in my pockets.

My question is are they ruined?

Most likely not.
I accidentally washed a 8 meg card in my Canon S1 days, it survived. It eventually lead me to experiment with ocean, pool, laundry, etc... and in each case the memory worked fine. The memory to have been 'left' in bathing shorts then rinsed in water worked, but died shortly after, with plenty of time to offload whatever was on it. Pool and laundry cycles don't seem to affect them much, and then I got bored...

My mom's washed and dried a few USB thumb drives over the years. I just let them sit out for a few days to make sure they were 100% dry, and they worked fine. You should be alright I'd expect.

Just a thought when i read this comment - i've got a (supposedly) kingston 80x 2GB card that 'formats' just fine (in the reader and camera), but there's errors in camera when writing to the card after about 80 shots... after you turn the camera off and on again, it can write to the remainder of the card just fine...

i think there' something broke in just that memory 'zone' and intend to do a 'low level format' soon to see if that identifies the problems...or not.

just means 'if it formats fine - it's fine' ... is a conditional statement

Right. The only true test is use in the camera.

First tell her there ruined, go get a few new ones...then in a few days they'll work just fine (mine did) and now you've got more!

Put them on the dash of your car for a couple hours, as long as it isn't too hot. I once dropped my cell phone in the koi pond of a japanese steakhouse. I took the battery out and placed phone and battery on the dash of my truck while we ate. An hour later, I put the battery back in powered it on and it was fine. Still is a year later.

I decided to test an old CF card a while back. I did several tests with it and it still works. Wanna run it over by a car but I think that's too much :P

1st: washing machine
2nd: very strong magnets
3rd: laid it down in some coca cola for several hours
4th: laid it down in strong bleach for several hours

Damn thing still works :(

edit: suggestions for the next test are more than welcome!

typical solder joints melt at 375 degrees C - but the plastic will go long before that . . .

Freezer, sure. Oven: not yet :P Think it's a pain to remove plastic residue from the oven by the way.
