I pixel peep to see the resolving power of a lens. How do you compare lens quality?

I listen to pixel peepers in the lens forum :lol:

How does the 70-200mm f/4 do at 500mm. Not to good, I would think .

I can crop my Canon/Tamron combo to equal the Sigma at 500mm and achieve very similar results

When you get the chance, post this finding, just so we can see it.

30 yards...damn... I have only had this lens for a week and my test shots are probably close to that, some a bit further than others, I'm not really great at judging distances. But I can tell you that I wasn't comparing this lens to my Sigma 70mm f2.8 DG macro with Kenko Ext. tubes. So close ups weren't even a consideration.

This is my first photography forum that I have joined. So any advice on how to make it quick and easy to upload 100% or if you like 200% crops let me know. I hope I don't piss off any non pixel peepers :):)

Well i really wanted shots about 50 yards out. :D

I thought it was something like 160 % ?

What good is a lens if you have to manipulate every photo... garbage in garbage out!

called having control over your final output. not many people want the camera to do everything. I sure dont. I have all my things set to zero and do it all after in PP.

I am looking at this lens or the Sigma 120-400mm.
Can someone post pics taken at 500 and at 4000 without moving the camera or the subject?
Would like to see just how much longer the 500 really is.

Thanks

I assume you mean 400mm v. 500mm. This test here is between the 50-500 Bigma and the Canon 100-400 http://www.pbase.com/lightrules/bigmapumprange (external link) . The test is done at infinity focus, so it's pretty close to what you're asking for. I say pretty close since the Bigma is more like a 485mm at infinity focus. So you can expect a little more "reach" with the Bigmos 150-500 OS. But only barely.

I'm wondering why you are in this forum and how long you have been into photography? It sounds like this is your first camera and computer? Let me guess your are still in your teens.:lol:

I can see I have a lot still to learn.

Yes, you're right I am 17 and I just picked up my first camera a few weeks ago. My name is Daisy Plonkhurst and I attend college doing a beauty course. I hope to start taking wedding shots for pocket money and to help my studies. Would my 150-500mm be suitable for that? Seems I'd be able to cover most things with that range. I did one last week actually. Here's one of the brides mother. I wanted to capture a candid moment as she prepared for the big day:

Brides mother? Mother in law? Dang, I woke up with her after an all nighter once.

Please speak slowly and distinctly. I have a wife and a computer, I don't need any more confusion in my life.
