Agreed...... If you don't need to isolate your subject from background and don't mind a large DOF, then cropping will be fine. If you need shallow DOF a cropped shot from 280mm won't compete with a non-cropped shot from 500mm (assuming the same f-stop)

I gotta quit reading this thread. I get enough arguments and snide remarks from my wife without reading other folks. Sorry condyk and lightrules. take care

Please speak slowly and distinctly. I have a wife and a computer, I don't need any more confusion in my life.

Does this thread have anything to do with a Sigma 150-500 like the title states? I'm sooooo bored, I can't believe I even posted.

Bye :p

I agree, it is getting out of hand. What happened to just reporting the facts? Come on lets keep it to how does it work with your camera and style. Would like to get back to the good and bad you have found while using the lens.
This link is becoming a joke.

I'm still waiting for the examples of your canon 70-200 f4 IS. I'm also wondering with an average of 15 posts every single day for the last 3 years when do you find time to work so you can buy all of this equipment and then find time to use it?

There are lots of samples. Why is one of mine so important? Ya wanna 'prove' something  As to earning money I sell the secret of working 3/days a week for silly money to people on photo forums. £1000 and the secret is yours ;-)a

Stick a 5D on the L and a 40D on the Siggy and that'll keep the peepers happy for a while checkin' DOF differences too ;-)a

Right, anyway ... my sweet copy has reach £500+ on ebay given I decided to keep the 70-200/400mm combo. two days still to go and lots of watchers! It's probably amongst the first second hand ones on the market.

We know Condyk likes the Sigma and that he chose to keep the Canon combo. I wonder if Lightrules got to spend some more time with his copy and has any additional comments to his initial review. How about it, LR?

Anyway, back to topic... I really think this lens will offer great versatility. I really like the range as how it will nicely complement a 7-2.

I think I bought too many gears this year (all my gears has been bought in the last 8 months). I should postpone getting this lens until at least next year.

I think I'm starting to get the hang of this lens. This is my first lens past 300mm and I've decided that I have been too aggressive on the shutter button (shake) and you cannot shoot from within a vehicle that has its motor running. Here are three 500mm ISO400 shots with 100% crops for each. First two at f/6.3 (1/125 and 1/400, respectively) and the snake at f/8 (1/50) and at minimum focus distance. I was told the snake, which I stumbled upon, is considered extremely poisonous, but I'll get an ID from our herp guy next week.

I hope it's still in Malyasia. :D

I'm not used to shooting from the car. Usually, you get arrested for that.

Thanks for the shots !

Well, the thread was getting kind of boring, so I thought I'd post a few actual images to see if I could liven it up a bit...
