Is that the death star from Star wars in the second picture(LOL!) but anyway they are nice pictures of the moon. I haven't done a moon shot with mine yet.

Hi Tony.

What converter did you have when taking this shot? I still have to try my lens with my 1.4 x converter.

Thanx for posting.

Is it? Gosh, I hadn't noticed. ;) I think we're in trouble; I'm sure Darth Rader's on that thing... :)

Deon, that's with the Sigma 2x and 1.4x TCs stacked.

The TCs don't talk to each other very well. This was shot at the 500 mark, thus should be 1400mm. But they report as 785mm for some reason.

Just trying out the 1.4x and 2x Sigma TCs on my 150-500. Here's a shot of the moon tonight at 1400mm, along with a 100% crop. :)

Very nice image, Tony. Did you get this image with MF or AF ?? Did you try any other shots with the either of TC's on ??

I'm considering getting a 1.4TC but wanted to know if the AF worked with the TC on. Thanks.

Cheers,
Girish

I may be wrong, but is has to be MF as the most cameras loose AF above f/5.6 and with both converters it should be way above that.

Please correct me if I am wrong.:o

Mine is on its way! Wooohooooo! :D

Congrats! Can't wait to see some shots (though probably not as much as you can't wait for it to arrive :D).

Dude,

That is the best moon shot I have seen so far...and an effective 1400mm no less!! Can it see through walls too? Just fan-freaking-tastic!! :)

Lose AF with any TC, and my understanding is the Canon TCs do not work with the Sigma. Both of mine are Sigmas. I've done other shots and the 1.4x is pretty nice, but the 2x starts to show issues. Stacking is really for only certain circumstances - like shooting the moon...

Tony your moon shot looks great! That is the first shot I had planned to do when mine arrives Wednesday was to stick my Tamron 1.4 on it, mount it to the tripod, and shoot the moon!

Exactly what I will try, my Sigma came in yesterday afternoon. I did this shot the night before with my 100-400 with a 1.4x and 2x stacked, and with almost the same phase of the moon (one day apart), it is interesting to compare yours to mine from the 100-400 perspective.
