Any chance you have a Bigma handy nearby or from a friend? It would be cool to compare both lenses side by side, and if you have a 100-400, bonus!

Tee Why [Tom] is fairly close by to me, and I *think* he still has his Bigma. Not sure. As for the 1-4 IS, mine is being shipped off to a fellow POTN'er probably tomorrow, so I won't have that to compare anymore. What timing! Regardless, I don't even have the 150-500 yet :D But it just really intrigues me...

Say the word, I will ship mine off to you for test purposes, if you cannot find one. It is a very sharp copy compared to what I have seen from others. It intrigues me as well. If it pans out to be a very good lens, my 100-400 is gone. The ideal lens from Sigma still would be an HSM OS Bigma!

I'll keep this in mind. Thanks for the offer.

Not a big fan of pigeons (they are pooping all over my driveway), but that pigeon shot was sharp!

Other shots seemed soft to me - but I've never owned anything longer then 200mm so not sure what longer shots "should" look like.

Personally, I was excited at opportunity to get the 150-500 ... now, I think I'm going to wait a bit. The 86mm diameter is a bummer :(

Were you planning to use a filter on it? It certainly doesn't need one.

Yes - I'm paranoid.

Maybe by time Sigma fixes all the intro issues with this 150-500, I will have accumulated enough money from interest to buy the 100-400 :)

Regarding the 40D and 120-400/150-500 issue (if you haven't seen the notice it's here http://www.sigma-photo.co.jp/english/news/info_080527.htm (external link) ), it seems most places with the 150-500 in stock now here in the USA have units that need to be "flashed" with the s/w update. It looks to be a simple fix, but it does necessitate sending it to Sigma NY.

I spoke with Allen's Camera in PA just now and they have 4 copies in stock. All 4 have the bug. So they said they are going to send them all to NY to have them fixed. Even more interesting is that I spoke with Sigma NY themselves this morning about the issue, and they said they had not heard of any issue like it. So I informed them  They said thanks for letting us know! LOL :D...

Anyway, we need more time and more user comments on both the 120-400 and 150-500. I'm not concluding much either way from what's been posted thus far from what I'm seeing around the forums. I'd like to get my mitts on a 150-500 OS sometime soon though. I am real curious about its 500mm f6.3 performance specifically.

Thats rather odd.

So this is only related to the 40D? I wonder why just that model and not the 20D or 30D, or any other model for that matter...

i'd take that -- blame the camera -- with a grain of salt until more early adopters report back.

Guess What?? I went into B+H's site to order a couple of hours ago and the lens was "In Stock" . Got called away to do something else and came back to complete my order and lens is now "out of stock". Someone beat me to the last one. Oh Well, "You snooze, you lose!"

Shame Alex ... will be good to check it out when we're over in CT. very happy with my 400mm/70-200mm combo but 500mm is very attractive if the quality is there.

I have been waiting for reviews also and found this site with some nice pictures using tc's....

I am a newby and I dont want to waste $1000.00 on a lens that wont be good. So I am waiting to hear from the gods here like Lightrules / Ed Rader / and others.
