OK, I couldn't read much more on this thread without trying it, and in particular, skygod challenging "the rules" since I am not a big fan of rules in general. I just went in my Italy pics to mess with this so you get an Italian theme:lol:

Here are my first attempts within the rules:

IMAGE LINK: http://www.flickr.com …s/stonemaster/8352266013/ (external link)

Here is from significantly below:

Here is ground level:

I found ground level VERY difficult and this one is a cheat in the sense that I opted out of the "tilt shift line" of focus because I found any subject with any kind of distance between subjects at eye level just doesn't look right. Like it is OK at first glance, but if you look at it, it looks wrong. Not sure if that makes sense. Of course, it is not like any of these look "right" anyway:lol:

Everything is relative.

2 more attempts at "ground level" with added bonus of people.

tilt-shift created in LR (external link) by hyo:foto (external link), on Flickr

do you think it would have been a little more aesthetically pleasing to have part of the feet and legs a little blurred also? (although not correct tilt-shift)..

thanks. I had to add another gradient filter to this one on a slant to make the large tree blurry (and not just part of it blurry). Wonder if anyone can spot any issues with this fake tilt-shift. The bottom of the left tree should be a little more blurry I think.

tilt shift :P (external link) by hyo:foto (external link), on Flickr

I guess the way to do it "right" would be to lasso the people in the photo and blur the layer underneath. I was too lazy to go into photoshop and did this in LR using desharpening + gradients.

If you look at all the GREAT shots that we have in this thread, the photographer is elevated. That's what you need in a good TS shot. Being on the same x-axis as the subject just doesn't work that well, my 2c.

I tried to start a thread like this but it didn't take off, here's mine. The photos aren't mine, but I did do the PP to make them like this, It's Dodger Stadium and the Rose Bowl.

Did you get permission from the photographer to edit and post their photos?
