Wide Angle/Photomerge

I'm at a quandary about a landscape lens and am looking hard at the superlative 135mm f/2L on my FF body
and combining the images in CS3's photomerge to give a wide angle effect.

No wide angle that I am aware of gives the IQ of the 135mm.

The downside, I think, would be the loss of depth perception. Am I correct?

Here's an idea... why not use a 50mm macro lens and stitch that instead? Macro lens are razor sharp!
