What isn't satisfying about your 400D + 50/1.4? It likely comes down to original scene lighting and then post processing to get that WOW factor. 3D comes from short depth of field (which you can already achieve) and lighting that separates the subject from background either in quantity, quality or color.

400D + 35L isn't anything like what the 5D + 85L will give you. It would be a very good combo, but not the same. The 50 1.4 or 50L would be closer. It all comes down to how much you're willing to invest in a certain focal length or look.

why the 35L?
* the 50 f/1.4 is not good vs the 35L at 1.4 (am i right?) if it is, then the bokeh quality is better on the 35L? btw, i just sold my 50 1.4 to get a change of feeling coz i have the 85L, i think i needed a wider FL, 85mm vs 50mm isn't too different (another option is sigma 30 1.4 + IRcamera)

*use the 35L as a walkaround

why the 5D+85L combo?
* i want to get more use of my 85L and the 400D combo is just too long for used as walkaround

* with the 5D i can get a better looking image at higher ISO, coz i often shots with available light/night + more dOf with the 85L

thx for the reply there TH :)

That's what i'm talking about, the 5D+85L combo is just,... WOW!

yes, after i got the 85L, my 2 lens of choice is the 10-22 or the 85L, the 2 FL is just enough to cover my photography needs(well not at the long tele for now), that's why i'm thinking to change to 5D+85L+17-40L combo

Yeah, I would go for the 5D. I'd been using the 35L on the 30D and recently got a 5D, and the lens has taken on a new life for me. I think you will really like the 17-40 as well...it's so lightweight yet solid, and has that L color/contrast. Word of warning though, you might just have to pick up a 135L also. ;)

thanks bacchanal, your words convince me more towards the 5D instead the 35L, final decision then, 5D :D,

135L? love to get those, but i think i'm saving for the 200 f/1.8 ,... just maybe,..
